A dog needs exercise to be healthy. If you do not have a fenced in yard you really need a dog run. They are not hard to install and the cost is minimal compared to the psychological trauma your dog goes through, when not exercised properly. Another reason for a dog run is to allow your dog to run free during the day when you are not home, this will also keep your pet from chewing up your home.
A dog that has a safe and secure place to go will be a happy dog. A dog kennel and run is an excellent tool for this. It is imperative you do not leave your dog in a kennel for long periods though, as doing so often leads to many different dog-behavioural problems such as excessive barking, chewing or digging. When you are potty training a dog you can also use the kennel to help you in the training process. You can put your dog in a kennel at night then immediately take them outdoors in the morning. Generally speaking a dog will not eliminate in the same area he sleeps, so this can be helpful when training the dog exactly where to go too. Just take him to the same section of the yard or property every morning, then enthusiastically praise him once his business is done.
