Summer time is here and that means backyard grilling. From simply hot dogs and hamburgers to more elaborate fare, good times and good food are part of the experience. But in order to have that fun, you will need to check a few things first.

Before anything starts, you need to know if you have enough propane. There are several ways to do this. You can install a propane tank gauge. This is a gauge that will cost you under $20 to get. You simply install it between the tank valve and your grill. It will have a glass window with a gauge that tells you how much propane gas is in the tank. These are very easy to install and to uninstall when you are swapping out your tank.

Another method for check the level or propane in your BBQ tank is using a gauge that will stick to the side of the propane tank. This is a magnetic gauge that you can place on the tank and remove it when the tank is empty. The entire gauge will be a certain color (yellow) when the tank is full. As propane gas is used, the gauge will then turn to orange indicating how much propane is left in the tank. These gauges aren’t as accurate as the inline gauges, put it does give you a good idea of how much propane you have left. Nothing worse than starting off a BBQ with friends and family and then quickly running out of gas.

There are now many places that offer propane tank exchanges. This is an easier way to get a full propane tank. In the past we would have to find a propane supplier, bring the tank and have them fill it up. Now you can find tank exchanges at large retailers and mom and pop stores. Simply bring your empty tank and exchange it for a full one.

Most importantly is how much will you be paying for propane? Before setting out to exchange your tank, call up and compare propane prices. We all want to save money, right?
