Buying Race Horses

Purchasing a race horse is not like other horses for sale.  The value of the horse is not only dependent on age and condition, but previous winning records of the parents, the horse itself, or it's offspring can also influence the price.  If you're plan is to make money off of the breedings you'll want to look at the winning records of its foals.  If you want to make money off the horse itself you'll want to look at the winning records of the race horse's parents and itself if it's old enough.

The hardest part to evaluate is the horse's heart.  The spirit or determination of the horse can often only be found in steep competition.  Purchase the perfect horse without heart and you'll only win easy races, find an OK horse with heart and you'll win upsets.
